What the heck is a flokati? Only the most sumptuous of rugs!

I really wanted to get this post up because I am so enamored with shag-modernrugs.com but I haven't a whole lot of time to describe completely their deliciousness!!

They offer the best in flokati rugs, at the best prices, with the best customere service, at your door practically the day before you order. I have two 5 x 7's and have purchased, for my non-internet friends, their very own flokati rugs...also from shag-modernrugs.com.

I recommend the plush 4000g flokatis. Much thicker and can handle plenty of action. I wouldn't go less than 4000g unless it is just for show or sits in a mostly unused guest room. There is a huge difference between the weights and I think it is absolutely worth the price difference.

We have four pets who sleep on them constantly and a son with many friends who romp on them...... and still they retain their thickness, their stand-up shag look and with a shake here and there...they manage to remain clean. This continues to surprise and impress me.

The process and history of the flokati can be found easily with a google search. Because of the process...the wool retains some oil making them resistant to dirt. Smaller sizes can be machine washed in cold water. Otherwise.....one can soak them in a tub and allow to dry outside in the shade. Vacuum without the roller...just use a suction attachment. More info. can be found at the shag-modernrug site.

Prices vary greatly from site to site. I believe shag-modernrug to be the least expensive and the quality is unsurpassable.

Lastly, flokatis add great style and elegance in settings from mid century to contemporary to eclectic and classic. Pretty awesome.

Beautiful things in shades of green! Frilly umbrella from sbumbrella comes in several colors and styles and is, I think, charming!! The heavily distressed deep olive highboy and chest are both from invitinglighting. Green bedroom with white writing desk is from apartmentherapy.
Green puppy dog fabric is from a really neat site called bonbonkakku that prints and distributes fabrics designed by...well, anyone! One has to secure enough votes to have it printed. Check it out! Table runner can be found at dermondpeterson along with other deliciousness! Pacific-home carries the lime green console table and other treasures...many beachy...island oriented.

Yes, you heard right...Deb Harvey..the elusive catwoman fighting the crime of 'boooorrrrinnng' one PAINTING at a time.

I was so fortunate to have found my friend, Deb, on ebay several years ago. Since then...many paintings and jewelry exchanges and purchases later.....our friendship has continued on from 3000 miles away!!!

Deb's paintings never lack for color, and are in fact bursting with rich and saturated color !! Her expressive cats often take on the facial characterististics of humans.....which, I am thinking, is no surprise. Interestingly, her dogs are painted in a somewhat different hand and are equally magnificent...perhaps even sweeter. And, not to forget....her portrayal of women...lovely....like someone you would want to meet!

Eh hem....The original gold background cat with collar hangs in my living room.

Search through this blog and you will come to the conclusion that magenta and lime are my favorite colors. So true! But until recently it was hard going to find quality furniture in these brilliant hues. Lots of fuchsia, magenta, lime and other vibrant colors at designersguild.

Crate and Barrel....the furnishings are exceptional

Ok, so I finally explored the new Crate and Barrel at Towson Mall! Sensory overload! But, then I don't get out much..to shop! I think I sat on every sofa and stayed on each one just a minute or two longer than I should. After much searching, I do believe I have found my sofa!! The Oasis!! Around $2,000.....it is worth twice that for it's comfort and for looking so beautiful. It's clean lines will allow it to shine in almost any decor. I would describe it as modern shabby. The base is quite structured and I love that there are no curls or scrolls. The hugely plush..and elongated cushions soften the straight edges. The chair, too, is dreamy...and add to the chair a most wondrous footstool it looks like a chaise and becomes heartbreakingly perfect!

The store itself is divine! Explosive colors here and there, mostly in the form of Marimekko fabrics, bedding and summery home goods. Where before it was one level and limited...it is now two floors and HUGE..expansive...glorious!

I don't even purchase much from crateandbarrel, but when I do, it is a forever piece.

Lush...light reflective rugs by Carini Lang. One might not be all that bowled over with a checkered rug (bottom left..gold) but when silk is added it takes on a whole new dimension..literally and becomes an object of art that we want to lay down and roll on...make a snow angel (rug angel).....or whatever.

These rugs are positively drenched in extraordinary colors made irresistable with silk threads.

You know, you probably have to offer your first born or place a second mortgage on your home...but they are wondrous and maybe worth it...at least the first born part.

Remember the high back wicker chairs in the 1960's? Pier I used to sell them. My aunt had one on the porch of her beach home. My cousins and I would dress up like hula girls (we were maybe 6 or 7) and my brother would just try to look cool with his shades seated upon this king's throne. All of us surrounding him. This was back in the late 60's.

Well, they have come a long way! More beautiful than ever, more solidly built....and look at the woven flower medallions. Impossibly cool!

You can capture the lightness, even if your bathroom doesn't have windows or big floor space. The key is all white with a flash of color...maybe on one wall....or pick up some bead board and create your own wainscoting..painting either the top OR the bead board in lime......or any color that you adore!

Light colored flooring helps. If you are money conscious, inexpensive linoleum has come a long way!

We have taken chandelier crystals and used them in all sorts of manners and have taken the silhouette and adapted it to jewels for our ears! The chandeliers are like, if you can do it so can we......and Marjorie Skouras fulfilled their wishes with these stunning gemstone bedecked chandeliers for the home (not the ears).

I designed an eclectic six foot sterling necklace with numerous pearls and sterling charms. I wear it often and upon seeing the draped chain chandelier, I felt a bit of a bond with it. Designed by Eva Menz.

Where to begin......I am so bowled over by this artist.

Here is just a small sampling of her claywork..some of my favorites. They are at once elegant and whimsical. I wouldn't think twice about using them at a formal dinner. Prices range, on her etsy site at the moment, from $18.00 to $48.00. Quite inexpensive for handcrafted pottery. In this society it is considered good manners to use plates and you have to have little vases to put all of those dandelions and violets your children collect. So go accidentally break those worn out plates you have had for...well forever and feed the economy!

Here is the deal. She has been working with clay for eleven years.......although she has had her hands in other mediums. She sighted a dragonfly by a lake a few years ago, became intrigued with all of the smallest of creatures and delights in telling their stories through her works. Another cool thing. Her electric kiln is supplements by solar panels on her roof. Cooler still......they travel to art shows in a diesel truck fueled with recycled vegetable oil.

Not so into the minty green wallpaper with darker green flowers...just really liking the lizard ALOT.

The contrasting purple wallpaper, on the other hand, is a surefire winner in my book.

If I could have two living rooms...this might be that second one. I am crazy over color, especially magenta and hot pinks, but I think I would have gone white with the roman shades....or green. Am I just getting old and boring?

This is the sort of room that begs you kick your shoes off and sit awhile. It bespeaks the style and interests of the owner. Photographs/artwork hold up every corner of the room.....the piles of books and mags are both visually appealing and reassert that this is a place to 'hang'. The configuration of the furniture is all about conversation. Yup, without invitation, I would have no problem making myself comfortable.....likely to the chagrin of the owner, producer-director Brett Ratner Oh yeah...the live plants lend color and fresh appeal. pointclickhome

Maybe I am just way too sleep deprived (probably YOU too)...or maybe dreaming of warmer days, but these are pure AWESOMENESS! Unfortunately for me, my dogs would take them over! And we would all exclaim, "look how cute they are all curled up like little foxes'....and that would be that!

I found this treasure on nothing-elegant blog which you really must check out. She is a clever writer and finds all sorts of nifty sites and such.

I adore the menagerie of pictures that fill the entire wall space....and the sofa is killer! Why the beige wall? You see so little of it, would be nice if they painted it orange or purple or some other rich and contrasting color. Ha, this is just me.

update: found AGAIN on pointclickhome It belongs to Lindsey Buckingham, former member of Fleetwood Mac. I love his solo music, his voice!!

I think these walls are fantastic....especially with the contrasting blues and greens in the sofa and pillows. Not so crazy about the ceiling lamp.

Although my home is color saturated head to toe.....this monochrome theme with shots of bold color really gets me.
